Photography is a great hobby, a form of art, and a way to pass some time and relieve stress. If you enjoy taking or viewing photos, you can probably appreciate the beauty in everyday things. A picture is, after all, worth about a thousand words.
Snap pictures with a sense of urgency. The longer you take, the higher the chance of the subject moving, running off or something else changing to ruin the photo. A camera which allows you to make quick photos will give you the best results.
It is a common misconception that bright, sunny days are perfect for taking pictures. Actually, a lot of sun can make it difficult to take useable photos. Bright sunlight is harsh in photos, causing glare, squinting, poor shadows and overly washed-out light colors. If possible, always choose early morning or late evening light when shooting outdoors.
Framing is a very important aspect of photography. Zoom in on your subject by eliminating objects which detract from your main focal point. You will reduce clutter in your photos and prevent unwanted focal points.
Drop the background focus when you are photographing people. Having a sharply focused background can detract from your subject matter, making it difficult for any viewers of your photo to focus the way you intend them to. Make sure you place the background further away than normal when you are shooting your subject.
Photography must be enjoyable. Use photography to create memories that last a lifetime, reminding you of places you’ve been and people you’ve known. You will be so happy if you are having a good time when you are snapping pictures.
Memory Card
Perhaps the best way to get high quality photos is to take a lot of pictures, so it’s important that your camera has a big memory card. You don’t ever want to be in a position where you run out of memory on the card, so by having a lot of space you never need be concerned about this happening. A spacious memory card will also enable you to shoot in RAW, presenting more opportunities for editing in the post production phase.
You do not have to stand utterly still when photographing a particular subject. In fact, you can and should move around to find the angle that provides the best shot. Try taking pictures of the subject from below, above, to the left and to the right.
A good photograph needs a great subject. If you don’t have the perfect subject, then the quality of your equipment, or the amount of your composure skills won’t amount to much. Choose your subject carefully, whether its a model who can pose or just a still object.
Consider finding a club that take pictures, or find someone who is also into photography to buddy up with. While other photographers can provide you with valuable information and advice, be careful not to begin imitating their personal styles in your own photography. Compare the pictures you took together to see how the same object can look different when seen by two people.
There is no one secret or silver bullet towards becoming a great photographer. Keep shooting pictures, and get experienced at doing so. You do not have to develop all your pictures or keep them, especially with the digital format. Over time, as you continue to take photographs of everything, you will get better at analyzing them and determining what could make each photo even better.
Work with a brand that you feel comfortable with if you decide to make photography a long-term hobby. While most professional photographers will use the name brand equipment, there are some others that provide good results as well.
You can adjust the settings on your camera before taking a picture, or try a unique angle. Adjust your camera settings to see how they affect the picture.
Red Eye
Red eye is a minor detail but it can really ruin an otherwise noteworthy picture. Turn off the flash if at all possible, as this will exacerbate red eye conditions. If you must have the light provided by a flash accessory, then instruct your subject to avert their gaze from your lens. Some cameras are also equipped with an easy to use red eye feature.
One of the first things you should learn is how sharpness affects your photographs. Sharpness affects the crispness of your photographs. Then it will start distorting as it gets to the outer edges of your camera frame.
While photography isn’t the right hobby for everyone, well-taken photos are something anyone can enjoy. If you become a photographer, you can capture memories that otherwise would not have existed to the rest of the world. Photography is a gratifying and enjoyable pastime. As mentioned, sharing your pictures with everyone can also be an effective way to reduce stress–so have fun with it!
