Something that I have done lately that I never thought I would do in a productive manner is ride a bike. I have recently started riding a commuter bike to and from work and it is one of the best decisions I have ever made. Living in a city, there are so many positives to riding a bike to work I do not understand why more people do not do it.
You always hear about people complaining that they do not have time to exercise. It’s always too early to get up and too late to do it when you get home from work tired from a long day. Well then what better way to take advantage of time you would normally spend sitting on a subway? Getting your exercise on your commute with a commuter bike saves you time and makes it productive.
The most obvious advantage is the exercise, but the most useful reason to buy a bike is the money you will save. If you live in the city, a bike will save you hundreds every month on subway passes and cab rides. The extra money in your pocket will not only make you happy, but it’s money that you don’t expect to have and all of a sudden, your wallet is a little bit fatter every week.
The one negative that I thought I would run into would be getting to work sweaty and gross after riding a bike to work, but that wasn’t the case. Living in the city means that there are no hills, so riding your commuter bike is care free and effortless. Pedaling on a flat surface on a easy gear gets you to work while avoiding the traffic and without the sweat.
I see very few if any negatives to riding a bike to work. You save a ton of money on cabs and subways, not to mention not having to deal with another packed subway car again. You also better yourself by exercising and you feel great all day. Seems like a no brainer to invest in a new commuter bicycle.
